This presentation will provide an overview of recent Civil Engineering projects and research activities in South East Queensland. The presentation will also include two case studies. The first case study will focus on a cut-and-cover tunnel in Gold Coast airport. The tunnel was constructed using diaphragm walls to allow concurrent construction of airport runway above the tunnel. The second case study will share the experience on seawalls construction in Brisbane. The seawalls were constructed to accommodate a land reclamation project to expand the Port of Brisbane.

Dr Erwin Oh is an Associate Professor in Geomechanics and he also serves as the Associate Dean (International) for Griffith School of Engineering at Griffith University. Dr Oh is a Taiwan and Australia educated Civil Engineer. Prior joining Griffith University, he had worked as a Civil Engineer in the industry and Queensland government. Dr Oh specialises in geotechnical and pavement engineering. He has authored or co-authored over 100 refereed journal and conference papers. Dr Oh teaches Mechanics of Materials and Geotechnical Engineering Practice. Dr Oh is actively engaged with the industry. He previously served as the Chairperson for Engineers Australia Gold Coast regional group (from 2011 to 2013) and Chairperson for Australian Geomechanics Society Queensland Chapter (2012).
